Oh yes, it’s Read And Write Night!
Kalamazoo County youth in grades K–5 are invited to join volunteers from the Western Michigan University chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association to spend time reading out loud then writing together to express their response to the story.
Hear a perspective that is new to you, express your own ideas in writing, and find power in the written word.
All Read and Write Nights will take place via Google Meet.
Each participating family will receive a copy of our monthly book prior to the event

All the Way to Havana by Margarita Engle, illustrated by Mike Curato
Together, a boy and his parents drive to the city of Havana, Cuba, in their old family car. Along the way, they experience the sights and sounds of the streets—neighbors talking, musicians performing, and beautiful, colorful cars putt-putting and bumpety-bumping along. In the end, though, it’s their old car, Cara Cara, that the boy loves best.
